Biography
Signed by I’warra from Yanco Agricultural College, promising centre James Mathews came to Easts in 1992 in order to secure a first grade place. He represented City Firsts that year and was the club's leading point-scorer but was tragically killed on Christmas Eve when driving to his parents’ property near Wagga.

Your Say

A genuinely great bloke, with substantial mental and physical talent, who sadly did not achieve his significant potential. Sorely missed, and never forgotten. Prior to Jersey Fleg with the Steelers, James played schoolboy Rugby League with Yanco Agricultural High School. NRL professionals David Barnhill, Benji Gillies, David Alexander, David Woods and Simon Gillies all played first grade with James in his final school years at Yanco in 1985 & 1986.

I remember him well in his year at Easts in 1992. He was a red headed tough little centre who goal kicked. It was a good year for the Roosters but they lost about 5 in a row mid season and went from 1st to 9th or 10th in those weeks. They finished just outside the top 5.
