Biography
Snowy-haired Balmain winger played in all three Tests on the Australian tour of NZ in 1935 after being a late call-up to the squad. A prolific try-scorer, Goodwin crossed for a club-record five tries in a match against University that year. Four years later Goodwin captained the Tigers to a grand final win over Souths after scoring a record 6 tries in an interstate match for NSW. The advent of World War II unfortunately stopped any chance of furthering his Test career and he later joined Newtown, playing in the club's 1943 grand final thrashing of Norths. Goodwin backed up the following year and scored 22t in a season which finished in controversial circumstances when the Blue Bags lost the grand final to his former club Balmain.

Sid Goodwin was my mums cousin so glad he played for the Tigers I have followed them since 1957

I believe Sid played for many years after leaving Newtown. He finished as non playing coach at Trundle after a period at Parkes .
I played for Parkes and Western Division in the 60s and Sid’s name was legend in those days even though it was many years since his retirement.I can tell stories about him and his “give me the ball” attitude. Rugby league was his life.
